Be a simple man
- Date: 2019

This painting was inspired by a series of watercolors done in New Orleans, which is an interesting city, full of colors, music, artists, burlesque performers, Spanish moss and beads. It’s a place where life and death exist simultaneously and where wealthy tourists come to indulge themselves, while the needy beg in the streets. My works reflect the opposing forces at play in the city of sin. Be a Simple Man is a culmination of these various view points and is also a further exploration of the parable set out in Mark 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. The composition of this painting is intentionally uncomfortable to make the viewer question everything about what makes them comfortable living life, ignoring the unpleasantries of life.
